It differed Norman Bruderhofer circa 1907, a popular model from the phonograph and graphophone in that it used a flat disc rather than a cylinder to record and play the sound. The gramophone was an immediate success as it easily lent itself to mass production. The recorded music industry took off, and record labels were born. People bought gramophones to listen to pre-recorded music in their own homes; it was no longer necessary to go to the opera or concert hall to hear music! 10
