We have worked together with our partners and did things that are out of the box and all of it will be featured between this issue and the upcoming one. We have featured the 3rd session from Hankook drifting school which is growing day by day and the number of candidates are increasing rapidly. In this issue as well, you will read about American University of Science and Technology AUST Safe Automotive day an amazing day with our partners interacting with students and providing them with the automotive knowledge and awareness they need. We have also developed new sections such as WHAT’S NEW IN THE R/C WORLD provided by Hobby Max and we promise more new sections in every issue. In addition and I personally loved it, the all new Dodge Durango 2014 one of the best SUV in its category that I have driven is featured in April’s issue.. The 1977 GM Corvette is part of the C3 generation which was produced from 1968-1982. The 1977 model featured lots of great improvement over its precedents such as interior leather became standard, removing the stingray emblem from the front and side and was replaced by the well known two flags corvette emblem in addition to shortening the shift lever was one inch longer so the driver no long touch the hand brake while shifting and also was positioned 2 inches closer to the dashboard allowing more hand room. This year’s show featured 250 exhibitors sharing the stage of over 110,000 square meters. In addition and for the first time, the sports car manufacturers Zenvo Automotive and Ermini Automobili, as well as the preparation specialists Klassen-Automobile and Nimrod Performances, were present at the Show. In the first phase they designated seven finalists out of 30 car novelties before testing them in-depth. Four criteria are particularly important for this nomination: innovation, safety, design and quality. Environmental and consumption aspects are also taken into consideration. The international award of Car of the Year is considered to be the most prestigious and desirable car award in the world.

This time the session candidates included previous candidates that are aggressively improving and decided to test their skills in real racing events setting the example on how racing careers should begin: Samir Accaoui participated in the amateur category and Gullnar Matta in the female category during FRTC first Super Speed Race for the 2014 season. The event was in collaboration with Kamal Hibri and Co (ACDelco car experts), Ets. Khalifeh (Hankook tires experts), Leo Rent a Car and Commercial Insurance. The event turned AUST campus into a car show with a display of limited release Anibal design Porsche Cayman, Muscle Cars and Hankook team racing cars. The AUST students got the chance to benefit from the knowledge of the Auto experts present on site namely from ACDelco and Hankook which demonstrated live to the audience how to properly maintain their cars and tires. The ACDelco expert explained in details how and when to check the engine oil and why use genuine engine oil, how to avoid accidents caused by batteries and the importance of properly maintained brake pads and use of genuine auto parts. Durango 2014 aking SUV www.arabtuning.com |P36 Moving on to the interior of this three-row SUV, the 2014 Dodge Durango represents all there is to say about a spacious vehicle. The driver and his next seat passenger have enough room space to enjoy a nice drive round the country on the new leather seats available as standard on all versions of the Durango 2014, the second row fits easily three adults as most SUV in this category do however the third row is what got our attention, I was able to sit comfortably with the second row seats up and managed to have enough leg room and head room, the new 2014 Dodge Durango is truly a family 7-seater SUV. That is not just it for the interior, the Durango got equipped with a state of the art Uconnect infotainment system, which comes with a 8.4-inch touch-screen display and lots of easy to use controls and functions. There’s a lot to say about the interior of this vehicle but nothing beats the new rotary knob shifter fitted on the central console, it is simply amazing. The new Dodge Durango comes mounted with a 3.6L V6 24V VVT engine generating 292-hp @6,400 rpm, 353 Nm @4,800 rpm and supported by the new 8-Speed Automatic transmission for extra fuel economy, another version comes with a HEMI 360-hp, 5.7-liter. Not surprisingly to Dodge, the new Durango has great maneuverability and is quite smooth and comfortable in most terrain using its full time all-wheel drive capabilities. Technology, comfort, power, safety, space and lots more is what characterize the all new Dodge Durango 2014. www.arabtuning.com |P37 The Chevy Tahoe is not just another full size SUV Back in 2007, when this generation of Tahoe was first released it was one of a kind, Chevrolet made a break through in the world of SUV and sat on the crown of full size SUV throughout the years. We took the 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe for a test drive on a sunny day and put it to the test on paved and unpaved roads. What was clear to us about the 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe is that not much has been made to its exterior since its release but they're tough, roomy, straight forward trucks that perform surprisingly well. The Tahoe's look was conservative from the start. Even so, we still can appreciate the wellsculpted lines of the 2013 Chevy Tahoe. Unlike some of the models in this vehicle class which can appear to be exaggerated in some areas, the Tahoe feels just right for those who don't need to assert themselves. The Tahoe's styling follows a basic two-box SUV design. A wide band decorated by the Chevy logo splitting the large front grille, a slightly round corners across and gently flared fenders gave the Tahoe an aggressive boxer like outline. www.arabtuning.com |P38 On the interior level, we didn't see much technologies as its rivals nevertheless the basic functions are available in an easy to use console, the dashboard looks dated for an 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe but the seats are comfortable and roomy exceeding our expectations from the regular full size SUV . Equipped with a 5.3-liter V-8 320 horsepower, coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission, the Tahoe is a well-executed combo that rolls out smooth with steady acceleration. It also has cylinder deactivation, which shuts off fuel to half the cylinders under coasting or deceleration gaining more points on the economy level. The Chevy Tahoe 2013 we took has an easy to shift twist knob from 2-wheel to 4-wheel drive which incite us to took it a bit Off-road on an unpaved road and see the Tahoe perform. The ride was smooth even on unleveled ground, the suspension system made of coil-overshock front suspension and rack-and-pinion steering gave the Tahoe amazing drivability and responsiveness on both paved and unpaved roads. The Chevy Tahoe blends traditional truck duty with modern standards making the Tahoe one of the more responsive and enjoyable SUVs to drive. www.arabtuning.com |P39 Farouk el Khalil’s Den We went to visit Mr. Farouk el Khalil owner of more than 28 collection cars between classics and muscles at his home garage in Beirut and what a visit, what we saw there was just a few selected from Farouk’s collection. Upon our arrival to an underground building parking, we started opening one hangar door after another to be amazed by the fully or partially restored cars waiting to be taken out on a Sunday cruise. Moving forward from one hangar to another and listening to Farouk’s tales about each car, you can clearly see his passion for cars and for his cars in particular. Farouk doesn’t settle for just any kind of restoration it has to be VIN matching or close to it otherwise it will go back to the workshop and start all over to reach a nearly perfect condition. All the cars we saw have great value on both levels sentimental and material, to name a few: one of the oldest cars in Lebanon a 1928 Ford Model A – Phaeton, 1970 Aston Martin DBS Vantage, 1961 Mercedes 190b with only 16,000 KM on it… And that is not it, the reason we called it a Den is the fully furnished, air conditioned with shocking setup room we discovered in his garage that reminded us of the Lion’s den. We entered the room and it wasn’t the Jacuzzi, nor the giant screen nor the entertainment system that captured our attention it was the theatre shaped curtain hiding two of the most precious to his heart: the 1961 Mercedes 190 SL and the 1972 Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider. We promise you that we will leave no stone unturned until we feature all the 28 cars of Mr. Farouk in Arab Tuning, in the meantime we leave you with this video that will take you on a tour inside THE DEN. It was simply awesome and beyond description! Moreover they say the journey of a thousand miles starts with one step! Knowing am still a beginner yet courage is God given blessing to me hence I ceased this beneficial opportunity for myself and my community! Who is Gullnar Matta? A proud Lebanese citizen. Running a normal life, happily married and a mother of three young ladies. I have my own brand of handmade crochet items and of course a car racing lover! You’ve learned drifting and racing on a closed and safe arena, what can you tell us about that? True! Knowing the risks that accompany this sports from the slightest car mishap up to the blinding adrenaline rush, and out of high sense of responsibility towards myself and others, given the fact that my love and passion for this sports have never ceased ever since my adolescence, I enrolled in a professional school in order to pursue my hobby safely cause the public streets are not an option for us. Why car racing? Why breathe? It's an innate thing in my case so why not?! I am interested in and have several hobbies yet car racing and love for speed as many others can understand and agree runs in the blood!

First of all I urge all ladies to know their strengths and capabilities in any domain not only in car racing, pursue their passion, dare to dream and fulfill their visions. Since its release in 2003 the TT-01 has become a very popular entry-level chassis, especially for drifting and rallying applications. The bathtub chassis frame combined with the central driveshaft makes it a durable car for everyday surfaces, and its relatively light weight plastic chassis and cut-out mounting positions for the battery and motor gives it a low center of gravity. For that they welcomed the RED BULL Athlete and Arab league champion in motocross Mr. Mohamad Balooshi in Lebanon. The training was divided into two segments; Motocross training and Enduro training. Riders took the best out of the experience while enjoying the dust and the dirt on the KTM track in Batroon. The event was followed on the 23rd of March by a ride with Mr. Mohamad Balooshi in the Lebanese mountains to discover breath taking sights and unreached grounds. A Barbecue dinner was held in the honor of the attendees. Camaro Club Lebanon Ride to Kfardebian On Sunday 23rd of February, the Official Camaro Club Lebanon was set for their longest rides yet to Kfardebian village located in Mount Lebanon. The gathering started at La Marina Dbaye and the guys were ready for adventure. As the number of cars started to increase, a quick briefing was delivered to all participating cars to ensure that all members enjoy a safe and joyous ride. The road to Kfardebian from Baabdat passes through several small towns containing some of the most beautiful scenery in Lebanon. The views contained a mixture of snowy slopes, valleys, and breathe taking ocean view. The Imperial was designed to be the most luxurious car of all, it was equipped with a Hemi engine known for being the most powerful engine ever manufactured by the company. It also featured the latest technology at that time such as an automatic button-controlled suspension system. The car came with options including power-operated windows and seats and a high-quality airconditioning unit. This particular 1956 Imperial was owned by the late Kuwaiti Emir, Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad AsSabah. After its restoration, it become a key part of the Historical, Vintage and Classic Car Museum. Initially sent to the USA for restoration, the cost was enormously expensive thus it took a trip back to Kuwait to be worked on by Kuwaiti craftsmen. The Kuwaiti restorers successfully brought it back to life; today it stands as a gem adorning the museum.
